Picture 8 shows how the center post of the bowl breaks away as it gets thinner. When it gets to the size of your finger, you have to start being very careful unless you want to see a bowl fly. You DON'T want to see a bowl fly, just in case you were wondering. This is a good time to sand, VERY carefully the outside if you want to. Mind the fingers.
Picture 9 shows the bowl sitting on top of the head and tailstock. Notice that there is a nubbin, technical term, inside the bowl where the post was, a curved gouge from a carving set is great for removing it, but anything that works for you is just fine. You *could* use a drill, very carefully, to do it, but I wouldn't. Finish with whatever you like, I'm partial to shellac, and let 'er dry.
