I recently received an email telling me that I had promised to do a little tutorial on flattening the backs of tools. I confess that I had forgotten that. But today I made up for it. Lets start by looking at what is required. I have a 1/2” thick piece of glass that I use for mounting my wet or dry sandpaper. I have a container lined with foam to keep it in. This is the bottom.
Then this is what it looks like empty (without the glass).
The glass sits into an angle iron frame which is also lined with foam.
Then here is the glass sitting inside the frame. About 1/8” of glass sits above the top edge of the angle iron.
