Here is another picture of the first part of the turning.
If you used only a small amount of glue the pieces will come apart fairly easily. If they don’t come apart, then saw the glue joint. This will not affect the finished piece.
The pieces are reassembled in the “inside-out” fashion.
I find that it is easier to use rubber bands to hold the pieces in place while the glue dries.
Again, it is important for the four corners to be matched. You can see the original marks from my spur center on the outside corners. Finally you make finials and put an eye on one end so the ornament can be hung on the tree.
This piece is very simple. I have seen these made very elaborately, and as my skill increases I will probably make mine elaborate too. These are fun to make, and this is a good way to use up scrap wood that would otherwise be burned. They also make nice Christmas gifts.
