Amboyna Burl Bowl

Here is a bowl turned from Amboyna burl.  This piece of wood was sent to me by Tom Johnson, old tools list member.

Shortly after it arrived my wife found a nice glass cover and asked that I turn a bowl that the glass would sit on.  She intends to use it as a container for jewelry. The piece is about 8” in diameter.

The piece had a nasty break on one edge which I carved to look like a natural edge.

Here is another shot.

As I turned this piece I noticed that the dust coming off of it was very oily. It clung to the tool and to my hands until I could not see the tool.  It smells like cedar.

There is no finish on it other than wax.
