H. M. MEIER Saw

Herman M. Meier was a hardware dealer in St. Louise, MO during 1853-1864.  He succeeded Thomas J. Meier in this business.  It is not clear if Thomas was his father or other relative.  The saws sold through this outfit were marked with oak leaf and acorn etch and the same emblem appears on the label screw of saws.

According to Directory of American Toolmakers by EAIA, Simmons Hardware Company later used Oak Leaf brand name on their products, implying that they absorbed this company.  No farther information about Meier Hardware dealership is available.  It is also not know how Maier acquired saws for sale.  In any case, the saw presented below is an example of his saws, marked with an Oak Leaf emblem.

See restoration article of this saw.
