Marking Gauge - Patent No. 302,315 of Charles L. Bellamy

1 of 3

I found this gauge in one of the antique stores in Alabama.  The locking mechanism was very new to me and I decided to buy it.  I haven't seen this type of gauges.

Beam Length: 8 3/4 " long.
Fence: Elliptical shape.  Width - 2 1/2"  Height - 2".
Locking Mechanism: Steel with Brass locking lever.
Graduation: 8" on the beam, graduated in 1/16"
Wood: Beach
Patent Date: July 22, 1884.

The gauge is in very good condition.  All finish is original.  The rule markings are showing some wear.  Brass gib for the locking bearing surface protects the beam.  The locking lever requires very little pressure to lock the fence in place.
