Frank Brickhouse - Tools Collector and Woodworker

My seventy years of life has been full of excitement.  I greet each day with enthusiasm looking for a new challenge and a rare handsaw.

My first job at the age of sixteen was in a foundry.  I will never forget when it was time for the next school term to begin I did not walk out of that foundry I ran.  I vowed never to return but after two years of college and a tour of duty in the U.S. Army I spent the next forty three years in the foundry industry.

My love for woodworking began during a twelve year period as a patternmaker in the foundry industry and continues today.  My biggest challenge has been restoring the wood framing in my 1931 Buick.  My collecting includes guns,  bowie knives, civil war items, pocket watches, four antique cars and other.

Understand that I was raised in the country and all we ever had to cut wood with was a borrowed two man crosscut and a handsaw from granddaddy.  These saws are in my collection.  Granddaddy’s prize saw was a Warranted Superior.

Saws, thumb hole handles, nibs, split nuts and medallions became a fascination of mine while searching  for Civil War items.  My saw collection is limited in number due to my philosophy.  " Older the better".

I also donate my time and skills to the activities of local community.  Here are some projects I have completed.

On the right you see a display cabinet I built for local Methodist Church.

Below are the display cabinets and and the dugout bench.  I built four display cases and two dugout benches for local high school.
