The next tool is a Schlichthobel, roughly equivalent to a Jackplane. The plane is of similar design as the scrub plane with the characteristic front horn.
The blade is made by the French manufacturer Peugeot.
The blade is a laminated blade, the width of the blade is 42.5 mm (1 43/64 inches), thickness is 3.2 mm (1/8 inches) and length is 146 mm (5 12/16 inches). The blade is made of laminated steel with about 19 mm of hardened insert left. The blade is slightly crowned. The plane body is made of beach and is 55.6 mm (2 3/16 inches) wide, 238 mm (9 3/8 inches) long, and 65 mm (2 9/16 inches) high (excluding the horn). The mouth opening is approximately in the center between heel and toe. Based on these two planes it may seem that German planes are smaller than the American equivalents. However this is not always the case as can be seen from the Rauhbank - Jointer Plane.
Wooden
Rauhbank - equivalent to a Jointer plane.
Size comparison
between Rauhbank (back), Schlichthobel (middle) This plane is 600 mm (23 5/8 inches) long and 81 mm (3 3/16 inches) high (excluding the tote). The mouth is offset from the center towards the toe by approx. 6%. The plane body is made of beach with a laminated sole. The lamination line when viewed from the side is a wave pattern and a triangular pattern when viewed from the heel or toe. The iron is massive but has a chipbreaker. Blade is 59 mm (2 3/16 inches) wide, 4.7 mm (3/16 inches) thick at the cutting edge and 2.9 mm (7/64 inches) thick at the top of the blade and 200 mm (7 7/8 inches) long.
